SOI Memory Training

The Structure of Intellect assesses many different learning abilities. What often shows up as the lowest overall ability is memory – both visual and auditory.

If you think of memory as “the developed art of paying attention,” then you begin to understand why this is a growing concern in education, especially in elementary school.Comprehension is diminished by lower memory ability and problem-solving becomes frustrating when memory ability fails to recall correct information. Fortunately, SOI is in the business of training memory!

MEMORY FACTS

  • memory is the ability to retrieve information that has been previously understood
  • a lack of memory abilities can be inhibiting or disabling in the acquisition of basic learning skills
  • memory is one of the easiest learning abilities to train
  • you will see improvement with fifteen minutes of daily memory training

Making the Most of SOI Test Results

SOI tests are tests of learning abilities. If someone is having difficulty learning, the cause may be a lack of learning abilities.

Our tests are a great way to get a snapshot of students’ learning abilities and to see their learning potential. Now that you know more about your students’ learning abilities, what’s next? How do you help all of these unique students?

EMPOWER YOUR STUDENTS. LET US HELP.

The SOI test results have profiled your students’ strong and weak abilities. Now what?

SOI is the easiest and most efficient way to improve their learning abilities. We provide you with Continue reading “Making the Most of SOI Test Results”

Classification: A Skill for Life

Comprehension of Figural Classes (CFC) at a lower level is the ability to group and sort. It is how we begin to comprehend. These are yellow; these are red. Beginning with same and different, we ask ourselves, “In what way are these things the same or different? Is this the only way they are the same or different? How else could they be grouped?”

The skill of logical thought is classification. In a very basic way, it helps us to make sense of our world. In a young child’s world it explains, “This is mama’s. This is daddy’s. This belongs to sister. It is not mine…unless I am two.”

At a young age, classification is what helps us make sense of our world. It gives order to our thinking. An older child may think, “These are crayons. These are markers. These are pencils.” We separate them for ease of use. As they enter school, they learn to organize their time. Now is the time to work. Now is the time to play. Classification is the skill that makes order out of chaos. Classified is the opposite of random. Continue reading “Classification: A Skill for Life”

2016 Summer Workshop Review & Announcements

This summer’s Advanced and Associate workshop was full of information!

The Meeker Paradigm, auditory processing, vision issues, interpreting profiles, the ALA-PLA tests, Certified Learning, IPP, American education, and more were presented.

We are grateful to have been able to use the Diane Hochstein’s Up for Learning center for the training. The center has been in operation for one year and has had a positive effect in our community!

UPCOMING TRAININGS

If you have not yet been trained in SOI, Dr. Meeker and Jody Brooks will be hosting several Basic and Intermediate workshops this coming year. Both workshops will be held at our location in Springfield this October. Dates and details will be decided soon, so if there is a specific weekend that would work best for you, please let us know!

NEW PROGRAM LAUNCH

Our biggest project of 2016 will be released this September! The ALA and PLA tests will be going ONLINE – available to practitioners, teachers, and schools! This is going to be a wonderful way for people to be tested with SOI that otherwise wouldn’t be able to because of distance, time, expenses, etc. People will be able to take the SOI test at their own pace from the comfort of their own home. Some practitioners also plan to have clients take the test online in their clinic or learning center. Remember that the ALA and PLA are available in paper format, too! Unique Issues

Judiciary Reform & SOI

Aiza Sanchez founded Centro SOI Saltillo 16 years ago. In 2010, she was introduced to the judicial powers by the former director of the psychology faculty. The judges and judicial staff were having difficulty changing from one judging system to the other.

Their first evaluation was in 2011, and they have been evaluating ever since. Last November, Centro SOI Saltillo trained 8 judges and 20 public attorney defenders with the auditory program and SOI modules.

The judiciary system reform in Mexican has been changing for the last seven or eight years from a system called “Inquisitive” to a system called “Accusative.” There are principal differences in the systems. First, the system changed from a “law” fundamental to a “human rights” fundamental. Second, the process changed from a written to oral form.

Coahuila state was one of the first states to initiate this change. One of the main issues in the process of changing from one system to another was developing strategies to prepare the professionals in the justice system not only in their knowledge of the law, but in their intellectual abilities, emotional stability, job competences, and constructive cognitive processes.

SOI National Workshop Highlights 2016

I thoroughly enjoyed attending the SOI National Workshop in Lubbock in January 2016. Whenever or wherever I hear Diane Hochstein speak, I always hear little sayings or quotes that are amazing and sometimes life-changing. I used to attend workshops and listen intently without writing down these “gems.” I finally learned at this workshop to write these quotes down so I could remember them forever. This year we also had the privilege of learning from the experience of Dylan Fitzpatrick.

First, I want to share with you Dylan’s beliefs: there are no bad children; work with children because they are gifts; no act is wasted with a child because you made a connection, an ounce of action is worth a ton of theory; and a person has to be ready for success.

SOI gives an individual three things:

  • Autonomy: solve problems on our own without reward.
  • Mastery: fulfillment of “I did it!”
  • Purpose in our life: we have goals, and there is a realization that there is something bigger than ourselves.

To empower means to have the resources to draw on from their own personal experiences. There is no greater gift than to empower someone.

And here are the gems of wisdom from Diane: Continue reading “SOI National Workshop Highlights 2016”
