SOI Personalized Program

SOI HELPED AND AIDED THIS STUDENT IN HIS READING AND LANGUAGE ABILITIES.

Good readers are phonemically aware, understand the alphabetic principle, apply these skills in a rapid and fluent manner, possess strong vocabularies and syntactical and grammatical skills, and relate reading to their own experiences.

Difficulties in any of these areas can impede reading and language development. Learning to read begins far before children enter formal schooling. This child in second grade was referred to us with the specific problem areas of reading and understanding. He also didn’t like the school subject Language.

  • Spells poorly and has  difficulty recalling facts and numbers
  • Has trouble learning new skills (compensates by relying on memorization)
  • Has trouble following directions or instructions
  • Struggles to recognize letters, match letters to sounds and make a sentence
  • Inability to read simple 3 letter words or associate them
  • Can’t comprehend what he reads or listens in the classroom

We started with his personalized workbooks and CDs, which are available based on students’ test results. These workbooks have an added advantage in that tasks are articulated within the book. SOI Certified Learning Annual Report: 2015-2016

Blog GraphCertified Learning teaches each student individually. It employs a tutorial model of instruction designed for classroom-size groups. It covers the basic curriculum – reading, math, and science concepts – for the primary grades.

It also teaches foundational abilities and skills that are necessary (but often lacking) for learning the content curriculum. The overall goal is to optimally prepare each student for the transition to the more advanced curriculum of the middle grades.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Out of every 100 lessons assigned, 98 were completed and mastered in the pass-fail tests. Only 2% of the assigned lessons were not mastered. The 98% that were mastered by all students represents an average of 75 lessons – the equivalent of a full year’s curriculum – for each of the participating students.

While all of these things are important, we believe that the key to success is this: the student.

  1. Is this student ready to learn?
  2. How does the student learn best?
  3. What areas does the student struggle in?
  4. How quickly is the student progressing through the lessons?
  5. Does the student have any learning gaps?
  6. What can we do to help the student learn best?
  7. Why is this student falling behind?
