I just couldn’t do it. Never too Late to I tend to stick with books that is more focused on story and characters than the writing. That would be worse than this.

There are parties out there who have celebrated this man and his work, but I cannot feel this same degree of excitement. The connection to literary fiction is tenuous at best because, in order for it to qualify it as such, you have to accept that you are reading the tedious observations of a very dull and very invented person.
Wuthering Heights filled me with a sense of frustration so supreme that I could not finish. I know that Pessoa is well loved, maybe the most loved of all the fine Portuguese authors. This is not the sort of book that you need to desaspsiego from the beginning to the end, in that order.

Life is empty and dreary and oppressive and so on. Pessoa, for instance, chose to operate mostly under a set of “heteronyms,” which is really just a fancy term for “pen names. Like the central character of any Charlie Kaufman film, he’s so obsessed with finding happiness and peace of mind for himself that he seemingly never tries to help fernandp find them.
Also abstraction for abstraction’s sake is a big turn-off. There has been conjecture as to which fragments of the discovered manuscript were intended for inclusion in the work, and much assembly has been done through careful analysis of notes left behind in journals and the trunk itself. Not the best way desassosiego choose a book, of course, but when you’re picking up an unknown title by an author you’ve never heard of, it sometimes seems as good as any.
