I loved the way the affair was described emotionally, the euphoria, the guilt, the lack of guilt, then the judgement. As an artist, Claire knows that creating something of value and beauty requires sacrifice, love and a strong will.

Sure, her husband was painting to be pretty callous but did he really dese Part of why I enjoy other novels by Elin is because eln having flawed characters, they are still often likable. Perhaps if the author had gone more in depth on how she and Jason weren’t elln.
A Summer Affair
Many times I finish a book wanting more, wishing that there was another book about the same characters so I can see what happens next in their lives, but with A Summer Affair I could care less I just wanted it to end. She was very guilt ridden over things that were obviously not her fault, and she was a little too “good” for me to believe it.
I really liked this book. Looking forward to reading this one at some point.
All her worst choices evidently were in her past, and here she was still being pretty much the immature housewife. Claire has always felt some responsibility for not insisting she take a cab with the rest of the ladies. I would have been, too.

Dec 22, Linda Bouley rated it really liked it Shelves: Mainly because, she just slept with some random guy that she in reality barely knew, someone that was not as cool as her husband who I thought was actually a pretty good personand didn’t even try to control herself. Claire has a lovely house, a handsome husband, four beautiful children and an au pair.
But I felt Hilderbrand hilderbrane do enough to show the flip side of an affair – the turmoil hileerbrand consequences that people indirectly involved children, spouses have to suffer due to the selfish acts of the two people having the affair.
This is my first book by this author.

I was having a hard time relating to the main character, Claire, a mother of 4 and wife to a husband that seems absolutely wonderful with his only downfall being that he watches a little too much TV rather than talk to her.
This is a story that I would not want to put even on my worst enemies, it just bothers me that much. If a comment smacks of advertising, contains a dubious link or is offensive, it will be deleted. I think there was just a little too much infidelity and selfishness in this one for my taste. I’d have liked a few more laughs, but in general I liked the tone of the book. This one was just a little too blah compared to some of her other reads.

The main character, Claire is a mother affaif four and is a professional Glass Blower. I loved the way you put it — “scandalous and carefree”. I just wish I could have sunk deeper into the characters, felt true angst for them, felt their joys and sorrows and especially their doubts more profoundly.
