2016 Summer Workshop Review & Announcements

This summer’s Advanced and Associate workshop was full of information!

The Meeker Paradigm, auditory processing, vision issues, interpreting profiles, the ALA-PLA tests, Certified Learning, IPP, American education, and more were presented.

We are grateful to have been able to use the Diane Hochstein’s Up for Learning center for the training. The center has been in operation for one year and has had a positive effect in our community!

If you have not yet been trained in SOI, Dr. Meeker and Jody Brooks will be hosting several Basic and Intermediate workshops this coming year. Both workshops will be held at our location in Springfield this October. Dates and details will be decided soon, so if there is a specific weekend that would work best for you, please let us know!

Our biggest project of 2016 will be released this September! The ALA and PLA tests will be going ONLINE – available to practitioners, teachers, and schools! This is going to be a wonderful way for people to be tested with SOI that otherwise wouldn’t be able to because of distance, time, expenses, etc. People will be able to take the SOI test at their own pace from the comfort of their own home. Some practitioners also plan to have clients take the test online in their clinic or learning center. Remember that the ALA and PLA are available in paper format, too!

If you are interested in either administering or taking the ALA and/or PLA test, please call us at (541) 746-5602 or email Jody at

We are excited for the launch of all of the newly revised Certified Learning modules this fall! Our practitioners also got to see just how easy the program is to use, and more importantly, learned how they can use Certified Learning in a clinic/learning center setting. It’s that versatile!

Certified Learning is going to be piloted at 4 Merkel ISD kindergarten classrooms in Texas this fall. The site will be available for visits in 2017. This will be a great opportunity for anyone who wants to see the program in action!

At the end of each school year, we are always inspired by what our Certified Learning students have accomplished! We have just released our report for the 2015-2016 school year, and the results are remarkable. Students achieved 98% mastery on their Certified Learning modules! WOW! You can view the full report for details. You will be amazed by what these students have done!

One of the highlights of our workshop is announcing/reviewing our newest products for you to use in your school, classroom, or learning center! The most popular products this year were the vision training workbooks and the Basic Reader program.

  • The vision training workbooks (Primary and Level 1 available) are designed specifically for helping those whose eyes are not working to the best of their ability. Each exercise trains the eyes in the area of visual stamina, shifting focus points, visual closure, or processing discrete information.
  • Basic Reader has been available for two years now, and has been very successful! It is designed primarily for 3rd – 5th grade students who struggle with reading, but can be used with students who are younger or older. The program contains everything you need to screen the student for potential vision problems, determine his or her dominant learning style, and then teach the skills necessary for reading using that learning style.

Connie Grist of SOI Systems Canada shared her knowledge of the importance of auditory abilities and how they relate to learning. For example, when looking at SOI test results, you should look at the subtests MSUa, MSSa, and NST for signs of auditory problems (there are other subtests, as well). One of our best products for addressing any auditory issues is the IPP Auditory Kit. The kit contains different exercises each addressing a different auditory ability.

As we chatted about profiles, auditory problems, vision issues, etc. we kept hearing about the many benefits of IPP. So many of our practitioners and teachers use this program and see amazing results! Why? Because it gets to the root of the issues that are causing the learning difficulties. Cognitive abilities, sensory-motor functions, and focusing skills are all screened and then trained/improved. Each student’s needs are individually met with IPP, making it an invaluable tool in both schools and learning centers!

Dr. Meeker shared his most recent observations regarding the education system in America.  You can read his full article here.

Jody Brooks reviewed “Building a Real Student Support Team,” a powerful article written by Renee Anderson on how Certified Learning is a Response to Intervention. The article clearly explains the need for Certified Learning and IPP in our schools, and the difference that they make for the students! You can read the full article here.

All in all, workshop was a success! We always enjoy the opportunity to meet and interact with those who are using SOI around the United States, and even around the world! We know that each and every one of you is making a positive impact through your use of SOI. So thank you!
